The Department of History at Aksaray University’s (ASU) Faculty of Science and Letters celebrated the 110th anniversary of the Victory of Kut al-Amara, one of the golden pages of Turkish history, with a meaningful conference. During the event held on April 29th, the historical and strategic significance of this great military achievement was thoroughly examined.
The keynote speaker of the conference, Head of the History Department Prof. Dr. Fatih Tuğluoğlu, provided the audience with a detailed account of one of the most critical sieges of World War I. Tuğluoğlu emphasized that this victory, secured by the Ottoman army against British forces, was not merely a military success but also a testament to faith and solidarity.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Fatih Tuğluoğlu noted that while Kut al-Amara did not receive the recognition it deserved in textbooks for many years, recent academic studies and commemorations have restored this epic saga to its rightful place in history.
The program concluded with a group photo session and a moment of silence held in honor of the heroes of the victory.
