The Aksaray University Department of History continues to provide its students with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in history. The Aksaray History and Culture Tour, organized by the department, took place on Tuesday, October 29th, with the participation of 40 students.
During the tour, students had the opportunity to examine Aksaray's rich historical and cultural heritage firsthand. By visiting Seljuk caravanserais such as Ağzıkarahan and Öresin Han, students learned about how trade and cultural exchange were conducted in the region during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods. The underground cities of Aziz Mercurius and Kırkgöz in Saratlı provided students with valuable information about settlements and living conditions in the Middle Ages.
Another important stop on the tour was the Aşıklıhöyük settlement in Kızılkaya Village. This Neolithic settlement offered students the chance to explore one of the earliest settlements in Central Anatolia. Other stops on the tour included the Selime Cathedral in Selime Town and other historical sites in Güzelyurt district.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selahattin SATILMIŞ, the Deputy Head of the Aksaray University Department of History, who accompanied the students on the tour, stated that such tours reinforce students' theoretical knowledge, increase their historical awareness, and help them understand the importance of preserving our cultural heritage. Students also expressed that they had both enjoyed themselves and had the opportunity to get acquainted with historical sites up close.
The department will continue to organize similar events in the future to further develop students' historical and cultural awareness.
